UV-A KIT-2

uvazge-1-600x299

Perfect Supplemental Lighting Kit for Grow Lights

The UV-A Kit-2 is one of our most popular kits. The kit features are a combination of high photon density, low heat and price/performance. The UV-A Kit-2 uses Semiled UVA leds, these are the highest output single die leds in the Semiled portfolio, combined with high efficiency Led drivers to provide best overall system efficacy and you have a brilliant UV Light source. Perfect for late flowering stimulation

The LED driver in the kit is the ERP SLM140W-1.05-130-ZA. The driver is 0-10v dimmable and we supply the 0-10v dimmer in the kit to allow for judicious use of the available UVA power. The driver is a constant current driver, IP67 and has an output voltage range of 93-130V, The 2 x UVA Boards should configured in series so that the drivers 1 amp is available across the 2 boards. This will drive your kit at approximately 100 watts for the kit.

The kit does not include heatsinks. Operation at 350ma without heatsinks is possible, at 1amp, it is recommended to use 2 inch square tube or 2mm thick angle or flat Aluminium to assist in thermal performance.

UV Light Benefits for Cannabis

Aside from increasing THC content, UV wavelengths have other benefits. UV-A light increases anthocyanin content while UV-B light increases the amount of lycopene, beta-carotene, glycosides, and hydroxycinnamic acid derivatives (Li & Kubota, 2009; Neugart et al., 2014; Pérez et al., 2009). These compounds can change the color, flavor, and smell of a plant. These changes in color, flavor, and smell often make plants more appealing to humans, but more toxic to some insects. Plants with increased levels of these flavor/smell compounds are less likely to get eaten by insects (Rechner, Neugart, Schreiner, Wu, & Poehling, 2017)! This means that ultraviolet lights can decrease herbivory from pests. Lastly, there is strong evidence that UV-B light prevents the spread and severity of fungal spores (Palmer, Drees, Foster, & Lindner, 2018).

Ultraviolet light is useful for more than just increasing THC content. As a grower, it’s important to weight the benefits and costs of using UV light to decide if it will significantly improve your grow environment.
